Ok so here is the first week after surgery blog. Wow...when I woke up from surgery I was not sure what I had done and was pretty sure I made a huge mistake. They blow your stomach up with CO2 gas and I had to walk around and burp for about 20 minutes. Pretty sure I started dry heaving burps...it was terrible. Then I came home all drugged up and slept most of the day. Overall I feel good. I had surgery on Tuesday, stopped my pain meds on Thursday and still use the nausea and gas x if I eat to fast or the wrong thing.
Wrong thing=protein shake!
I down 16.4 pounds since my first doctor appointment.

48 Hours Prior to Surgery
No solid food! OMG! Help Pure Protein and Soup...it's worth it!
Also if you smoke...no more smoking until after surgery.
The night before is normal night before surgery. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
I have to be there at 6:00 am. Let the fun begin!

2 week pre op diet
Ok so I know most people want to eat until the last minute, but you can't. There is a two week pre op diet you have to follow to prepare your body for the surgery. They have to move your liver while they are working so it has to be pliable. Different doctors have different diets. I love my doctor and his office staff. We will discuss them later! Basically it 2 protein shakes a day and half a lunch and half a dinner. You can't have fried or breaded food, nothing high in carbs. No bread pasta, peas, corn, potatoes or carrots. Also at least 6 glasses of water a day.
Also you have to stop certain medications and herbal supplements.
I will say I have not done a great job doing this.

Approval
So when I called to set up my free consultation they took down all my insurance information, asked me my weight and height and then a few days later they said they had pending approval and would go over the details at my appointment. I go in and they tell me that my insurance will pay all but $1000.00 I need blood work and an EKG and a psychological evaluation...that's it? Wow! The people out in the waiting room were talking about 6 months of diet plans and counseling...really? She said every insurance is different and mine pays great. Ok when can we do it...well your insurance lapsed for more than 63 days when you got your new job so you have to wait a year from your start date to have anything done. I thought...ok, not so bad, at this point I was one two months away from that, I could wait. While I waited I did more research and got myself truly ready for this journey.
On day after my year anniversary I went in, had every thing done. They added a sleep study because I snore...well I snore because I'm fat...hello! I though, on no with my travel schedule there is no way I can go sleep somewhere. Well guess what, they now have take some sleep studies. I had it sent to the hotel, slept in a few nights and sent it back. Easy! I did the psych eval and was cleared to go.

My Decision for Change
I am a heavy girl! Even when I was thin, I was heavy for my size. I hated it, I would get on the scale and weigh 30 pounds more than I looked like I did. Except it did come in handy at carnivals, the guess your weigh guy could never get it right and I always got a prize. Anyway this is the first time in my life that being heavy has finally paid off!
I have fought my weight my entire life. I have lost the same 50 pounds dozens of time. I just can't keep it off. So a few years ago I started researching Lap Band and decided to do it. Well my insurance wouldn't cover it back then so I dropped it...the idea not the weight. After changing jobs and getting new insurance and still being fat I thought, "Well, let's give this one more try" and it worked. I weigh enough for my insurance to cover it and on August 7, 2013 I will have Lap Band.
I have done so much research and feel that it is the right thing for me to lose the weight and keep it off. Keeping it off is my biggest issue. I was going to keep it a secret and not tell anyone for now, but decided that maybe me being so open with help someone else that feels they can't do anything to make a change. I am going to chronicle every step so if you want to follow along...let's go!
